Business premises broken into, suspect nabbed

The man was seen running away from the scene. He dropped two boxes of cigarettes before disappearing into the darkness.

A suspect appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on February 1, facing charges of a business burglary. The suspect allegedly broke into the KWIKSPAR in Romyn Street in Rensburg on January 30.

The suspect gained entrance by breaking the small window at the back of the building. While inside the shop, he allegedly took the money, a leather bag and various brands of cigarettes.

According to Heidelberg SAPS communications officer Thivhulawi Tshilate, Crime Stop Security Services immediately responded to the alarm.

The man was seen running away from the scene. He dropped two boxes of cigarettes before disappearing into the darkness.

“Through investigations and in partnership with the community and the shop owners, the man was arrested,” said Tshilate.

The suspect was denied bail and the case was postponed to February 9.
