Law enforcement sweeps off crime through operation Okae Molao

“Several identified places were visited to search for illegal substances."

It was a busy day for the men and women in blue as they embarked on a law enforcement operation which saw numerous arrests made on October 15.

This was a joint operation between Alberton and Brackendowns SAPS, working alongside EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police. They focused in sectors one, two and three, namely Alberton CBD, Alberton North, Leondale and surrounding areas.

According to Capt Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson of Alberton SAPS, the operation focused on tuck shops and illegally operating taverns.

Licensed liquor outlets were also monitored for compliance to Gauteng Liquor Act and Trade and Industry Act.
Ramotshela said the operation was also driven on information received from the community about people suspected to be dealing or selling drugs.

“Several identified places were visited to search for illegal substances. Dagga weighing 181g was confiscated after police searched places suspected to be selling. R150 cash, 0.100g nyaope were also confiscated. “At least 14 illegal immigrants were arrested and 48 traffic fines valued R18 300 was issued,” he said.

Other activities during the day included a searching of vehicles, frisking people, paying a visit to metal scrap dealers and conducting a roadblock. They also successfully closed five illegal taverns.

“The Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Maj-Gen Vincent Leshabane, appreciated and congratulated the work done by SAPS members. The arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts,” said Ramotshela.
