Cash in Transit suspects detained in Johannesburg South

The crewman managed to alert the driver of the CIT truck outside to inform the driver of the robbery in progress. Bartmann says both the driver and the crewman then drove behind the suspects to try and stop them.

ON Tuesday morning, September 29 at approximately 10:00, officers from a Fidelity Cash Solutions servicing customers at The Glen Shopping Centre in Johannesburg South, were held up by two armed suspects.

Wahl Bartmann, CEO of Fidelity Services Group says, the crewman was approached by two armed suspects in the centre and held at gunpoint. The suspects disarmed the officer and took the Cash Cannister and ran out of the shopping centre.”

The crewman managed to alert the driver of the CIT truck outside to inform the driver of the robbery in progress. Bartmann says both the driver and the crewman then drove behind the suspects to try and stop them. As the suspects left the shopping mall, a responding vehicle of Fidelity Services, Guarding Division intercepted the suspects who proceeded to open fire on the security officers, hitting the vehicle several times.

The security officers returned fire, wounding one of the suspects in the leg. One of the security officers was also wounded in the leg during the shootout; he is in a stable condition.

“Fortunately between the Fidelity CIT team and the Guarding team, the container with cash was recovered and safely secured,” says Bartmann.

He commended the quick reaction of the South African Police Service too. “The police were very quick to react to the robbery, and with the assistance of the SAPS air support, they were able to arrest another suspect who tried to flee the scene, in total arresting 2 of the 4 suspects involved” concludes Bartmann.
