The City of Ekurhuleni and the Gauteng Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) will this morning (July 22) be launching the ward-based approach to curb the spread of Covid-19 at the metro’s Thembisa 2 Customer Care Centre.
According to the local government, the recent spark in Covid-19 infections in Gauteng has been driven by cluster outbreaks, calling for focused interventions in those clusters, which are mainly in wards.
“The prevention of the spread of Covid-19 is a societal responsibility since it requires behavioural change.
“To encourage behavioural change in communities that are experiencing cluster outbreaks, the City, in collaboration with CoGTA, will roll out a ward-based communication approach to change the mindsets of those who have not embraced the methods of Covid-19 prevention; namely social distancing, handwashing and sneezing and coughing etiquettes,” explained Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
