Compliments should go to the Department of Basic Education

I read your newspaper’s interesting article about the introduction of kiSwahili in schools in South Africa.

Not only has your article clarified many of the things I did not know, nor understand about the language of kiSwahili, but it has also opened my mind about the origins and history of the language and its development over the years.

I am sure the new language will not only enhance knowledge and the ability for young South Africans to know more about the language, but it will bring many closer to the continent.

The country has many non-South Africans who come from different parts of Africa. By introducing an African language like kiSwahili, which is spoken in many countries on the continent, South Africa will enable its citizens to communicate with their neighbours.

Compliments should go to the Department of Basic Education for a progressive idea.
