AFCKO celebrates women

Both girls started karate at an early age.

African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) has wished all women a Happy Women’s Month.

Shihan Thulane Sibisi, AFCKO founder, said: “It is always a pleasure to see a woman bring her children to the dojo and wait for them to train until the end of the class.

“One of them is Thabitha Mananyetjo, the mother of two sisters, Lilian Sempai (13), a Grade Eight learner at Leondale High School, who holds a brown belt and is due for her black belt, and Precious Mananyetjo (10), a green-belt holder who is in Grade Four at Opelweg Primary School.”

Both girls started karate at an early age.

Lilian was enrolled at the age of four and Precious at the age of five.

Thabitha said she wanted her daughters to start karate early so they could grow up disciplined.

“I’m very proud of these two children because they come from a family with good values.

“Their mother is very disciplined.

“She needs to be proud to see the progress which her daughters are making.

“When you look at their school reports you can see they come from a very supportive family,” Sibisi said.

Sibisi said the influence of women plays a very important role in our communities and that we need to respect the part which they play in building the nation.

“Most of our karate students come from single-parent households, mostly run by women who want karate to assist in teaching children discipline.

“Women are the pillars of our community,” Sibisi concluded.

AFCKO is also asking for sanitary pads donations.
