KAC athletes do well at KAC street mile run

Katlehong Athletic Club (KAC) athletes between the ages of 10 to 19 years dominated the Ekurhuleni Municipality Flag Ship Programme (EMFSP) at the Vosloorus Stadium on May 12.

EMFSP is a 1.6km street sprint aimed at developing young athletes’ talent and is hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.

This year the run started at the stadium gate, proceeded around the township and back to the starting point.

Motebang Khalala, the u-13 winner, and Siyabonga Mbatha, the u-15 winner, from KAC led the race in their categories from start to finish.

Hloni Motloung, KAC chairperson, said they are happy with the progress shown by their athletes in this year’s event.

“It means our development is on track. I want these young athletes to go from strength to strength until they are able to represent the club provincially and nationally,” said Motloung.

The winners are:

Women

• Open: Asselina Nyathi (Post Office Running Club) – 7:20

• U-16: Misha Dzimba (temp runner) – 5:55

• U-15: Ntokozo Gumede (temp runner) – 5:14

• U-13: Ntombi Gumede (temp runner) – 5:20

• U-13: Motebang Khalala (KAC) – 5:35

• U-10: Siyanda Ntumeni (temp runner) – 6:22

Motloung encouraged runners who don’t belong to a club to join clubs so they will be developed as runners.

KAC will host its street mile run and a 5km fun run at the Huntersfield Stadium on July 21 from 7am.
