EMPD makes sure holidaymakers arrive alive

In the process of high visibility patrols five motor vehicles were discontinued with 65 fines issued for various offences including documentation and defects.

 The EMPD Specialised Services comprising of over 100 officers were deployed on the freeways on Monday, 22 April  from 8am to 6pm.

According to chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, this was done in anticipation of the high volumes of traffic on the City of Ekurhuleni 380km network of freeways with holidaymakers returning home and those travelling through the city to their various destinations outside Gauteng.

He said officers were from K9, SWAT, Equestrian, Public Order Policing, First Responder, OR Tambo International Airport and Overloads units.

“The objective of the operations was to ensure stringent adherence to the rules of the road and to create a safe road environment for the motorists and other road users.

“The strategic deployment was on N12 westbound Holfontein turn off, N12 Kingsway offramp, N3, R59, R21, R24, N17, Pretoria Road, Oakmoor train station, N12 Voortrekker in Alberton to Reading Interchange and Comaro turnoff to Blockhouse.
