The City of Ekurhuleni distances itself from the bogus 260l wheelie bin tender supplied by a service provider that is alleged to be operating in Cape Town.
According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, this is a scam.
“The unsuspecting and vulnerable service providers are then asked to deposit their hard-earned monies before they are told that the bins will be delivered on their behalf at 47 Van Buuren Road, the City of Ekurhuleni Communication and Brand Management Department,” said Gadebe.

“The perpetrators of this criminal act allegedly send possible service providers an appointment letter bearing the City’s logo together with the fraudulently generated order number purported to come from the City.”
He said despite the City warning service providers of the scam, the perpetrators succeed in cheating money out of unsuspecting and vulnerable people.
“The City is fully committed to transparency on any information related to business and procurement. Such information is free and available to the public.
“Entrepreneurship is highly encouraged and supported by the City and any organization or individuals that seek to exploit aspirant entrepreneurs will be exposed.
“Service providers are urged to thoroughly scrutinize the tender documents since the scammers have perfected their acts of scamming people.”
He said the fraudulent emails have some elements of similarities to the CoE emails. An example of the fraudsters emails are as follows: name.surname@ekurhuleni-gov.org.
The difference is as follows:
- Scam: …@Ekurhuleni–gov.org
- Correct email: …@ekurhuleni.gov.za
