Support needed for daycare centre

Katha Daycare in Katlehong is preparing its annual programme to make sure all its beneficiaries are back at school.

The beneficiaries include learners who attend Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme and learners of school-going age up to tertiary level.

Daycare beneficiaries are mainly orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) many of whom are from granny-headed families.

The ECD registrations for children ready to begin with early numeracy and literacy have begun.

The programme has raised funds to provide for one Grade One learner with school uniform for his formal school.

Ten beneficiaries from primary and high schools have received new school uniform.

There was excitement by the parents when school uniform was presented to them.

“The whole idea is to keep children (especially OVC) at school, most importantly for them to look as good as their peers,” said the programme manager, Katse Matsebe.

Ten township learners who passed matric were given the needed support to proceed with their tertiary education.

“Support is needed for children to meet their needs at the universities. This programme is still seeking funds to make sure that the children attend school and do not miss school because they do not have money to buy school uniform,” said Matsebe.
