Residents of Vosloorus looking forward to elections

Kathorus MAIL went out and chatted to a few community members who were registering to vote at J. Dumane Community Hall on Saturday to find out what they expected of the next government.

Bathabile Ngidi (19), who was registering to vote for the first time, said she was excited about it.

“But I am not sure yet whom I am going to vote for. I will wait for the political parties to deliver their manifestos and then I will take it from there. Whoever I vote for must make sure they fulfil the promise of free education,” said Ngidi.

Snenhlanhla Mdluli (19) was also signing up for the first time.

She said she expected the person she voted for to make South Africa a better place.

“I dream of a country which corruption free, crime free, a country where people respect women and treat them with dignity (not abuse them). Party officials must be available not only when they are begging for our votes but also when we need them. Lastly, fees must fall at tertiary level. I can’t wait to cast my vote for the first time,” said Mdluli.

Pearl Motaung from Vosloorus said the candidate she wanted to vote for promised to get rid of corruption.

“I think I will give him a chance to deliver on his promises during his first term in office. If he fails to deliver, I will not give him another chance,” said Motaung.

She added that she wants to see free education at university.

“The previous president of the country promised there would be free education. I think the next president needs to make that promise a reality. We have children staying at home with a high university qualification. They are unemployable because they have no experience. I wish our government would do something about that,” said Motaung.

Donald Mabaso from Sunrise said his vote is his voice.

“I believe my vote alone is important, it can make a huge difference. The current government has failed to create job opportunities that it promised to us poor people. I will vote because I want job opportunities to be created. That is what I will expect from the party I vote for,” said Mabaso.
