PT Xulu Secondary adopts the ECP to improve matric pass rate

PT Xulu Secondary School has set the goal to obtain a 100 per cent pass rate during their matric final exams at the end of the year and beyond.

In order to make sure PT Xulu Secondary School achieves the pass rate set during the assembly on January 11, the school based in Vosloorus has decided to adopt a new method to support teachers and learners.

The school adopted the Extra Class Programme (ECP) that is run by Success and Lighting Organisation (SLO).

Nelson Ntyibontyi, co-founder and financial director of the organisation, said ECP offers Saturday classes to learners from Grade Eight to Grade 12, focusing on mathematics, physical sciences and accounting for Grades 10 to 12 and mathematics and economics and management science (EMS) for Grades Eight and Nine.

“Different varsity students run the programme and it is in line with the curriculum,” said Ntyibintyi who went on to add they do not only offer lessons.

“We also offer motivation, career coaching, assist Grade 12s to apply to varsity and even bring registration forms to class and help them to fill them in correctly.”

SLO was introduced to the school by Mzikayise Ngada, the Democratic Alliance (DA) PR councillor deployed in Vosloorus.

Ngada said learners who are part of the programme are guaranteed to pass.

“I have seen learners improving and getting better marks. What I like the most about it is the response from parents, they are singing the praises of this programme,” said Ngada.
