Young gentleman recognises local talent in Ekurhuleni

Thabang Sibeko is set to honour young models and artists from East Rand Classics.

Known as Modelthah_Africa, Sibeko is a community builder and the founder of East Rand Classics (ERC), which was started February 2013.

ERC is a community development movement that focuses on developing the youth of Daveyton and surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni. The main aim of this movement is to groom unrecognised local talent, inspire and build young leaders in the media industry.

Sibeko said that there is a lot of talent around but it goes unrecognised and that leads to the young generation losing hope in their dreams. Therefore, ERC strives to encourage the youth to become future stars and inspire others.

ERC focuses on youth development and building careers in the following categories:

  • Modelling
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Presenting
  • Acting
  • Poetry
  • Photography
  • Fashion design
  • Life skills development
  • Educational programmes

Sibeko is the sole funder of events hosted by the ERC community development movement. He is open to partnerships and is looking for sponsorships for his movement.

In October, ERC hosted its second annual Daveyton Kings and Queens, which showcased local talent and honoured hard work.

“The movement targets the youth since they are in special need of attention so that they do good things for the community,” he said.

Sibeko is hoping to eventually see ERC reaching all communities around South Africa. However, he mentioned that this will become reality only if he finds enough support for his movement.

“As the ERC founder, I am building youth development programmes that will grow the youth and make sure that the creative side is kept alive,” said Sibeko.

ERC will be hosting its second annual movement awards, which will take place in Daveyton, on Sunday. The awards are to recognise and appreciate the young models and artists from the ERC and to recognise them for all the hard work they have done for their communities.
