15 Adults win the #Matric4Madiba competition

#Matric4Madiba a competition by Media Works has given 15 adults from across the country an opportunity to amend their senior certificates for free.

On September 25, Media Works proudly announced the winners of its #Matric4Madiba competition.

The competition gave 15 adult South Africans the opportunity to complete their amended senior certificate (ASC) for free.

The winners are individuals whose finances or circumstances prevented them from completing their secondary education.

Through Matric Works, they will be able to study towards their nationally recognised ASC, a qualification equivalent to matric.

At an event held at Media Works’ offices, the winners were handed their golden key certificates, symbolising the next chapter in their lives as they embark on completing their matric.

Here are the stories of the two Kathorus winners telling why such an opportunity matters so much to them.

Khanyisile Manyathi (31) a hairdresser from Kathlehong

“I’m excited. I’m feeling like I’m starting my life all over again. Matric is the first key you need in life. So, I feel like I have my key and can go and open other doors. My dream is to become a police officer or a medical doctor. So, now I can start to plan and work towards my dream.”

Sibongile Mbatha (29) a facilitator from Spruitview

“When they called me, I didn’t know whether to jump for joy or not because I really didn’t believe I had won. No words can describe it. I’m a facilitator by default where I work. So, I think the job I do makes me love education. So, I want to continue doing what I do and to more experience. In the long run, I do want to open my own creche. This is what I have always wanted to do. So, with these tools, my horizon will expand. My children are also the main reason why I did it. I’ve got three boys. I did it for them, more than for myself.”
