‘South Africa cannot solve a problem by creating another problem’

'Is the Constitutional Court aware of the dangers it has just exposed South Africa's youth to?'

Mma-Koloti Masiteng, Angar Court, Dinwiddie, Germiston writes:

I am a very angry young person and I have a very good reason to be so.

Is the Constitutional Court aware of the dangers it has just exposed South Africa’s youth to?

I am a 19-year-old South African young female who has high hopes about life and the future of this country.

Yes, I agree, we have problems, serious problems for that matter, and we need to stand together to make these problems disappear.

But what the Constitutional Court has done is no different from one who stands on one end of the rope while trying to make the two ends meet.

South Africa cannot solve a problem by creating another problem.

Legalising the smoking of marijuana will have serious consequences on public and social order as people suddenly abuse this entitlement to abuse dagga. This is like adding petrol to an already smouldering drug problem.

Please, take a second look at this irresponsible Constitutional Court ruling or raise the age of smoking dagga to a much higher age than 18 for the sake of the country’s youth.
