Nageng Primary School in Vosloorus hosted its Dress-Up Day at the school hall on September 20.
On the day, each earner dressed-up with a dress code that represented their career choice.
Teacher and coordinator of the event Bethuel Malebe said the purpose of the event was to make the learners become conscious of career paths they may wish to pursue.

Learners and the youth from the community were inspired by different speakers who shared their career journeys, the typical workday, education requirements, dress code and possible employment opportunities, among others.
Learners were given an opportunity to speak about their career choices, and to explore areas they may not have considered before.
Malebe said: “The event was part of the life orientation curriculum for Grade Seven learners. As their teacher, I have a responsibility to make the day memorable for them. It is my responsibility to explore and prepare them for high school. The learners must be psychologically and physically prepared when they start their high school journey in 2019.
“As learners who will be in high school next year, it is important to know which careers to choose and which subject to take,” Malebe said.
Artists, actors, economists, scientists, engineers, accountants, entrepreneurs, medical practitioners, law enforcement officers and farmers shared their information about their areas of expertise.
Speakers from Eskom shared information about available careers in their organisation and about bursaries and scholarships the company offers.

Terrence Munyai of the City of Ekurhuleni Environmental Health encouraged learners to take consider careers aligned to the environment.
He said there was a shortage of skills in environmental disciplines and it may be worth their while to explore this as a career.
“I want to guarantee you a good working environment and a good salary scale,” joked Munyai.
