EMPD officers nab metro parks department employee for alleged dagga use at work

Parks department employees complain about the use of dagga on the job.

Concerned workers from the metro’s parks department recently lodged complaints about fellow workers using dagga at the depot, as well as during working hours.

They claimed the dagga use invariably led to altercations on a daily basis.

The complainants also mentioned that this led to a dangerous working environment as the alleged dagga-smokers operate machines which could lead to serious injuries to themselves and their fellow workers.

The EMPD’s Germiston precinct commander was made aware of the problem and he, in turn, informed the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit.

He was allegedly found in possession of dagga.

The suspect was arrested at about 11am at the intersection of Smith Street and Bedford Avenue in Bedfordview while he was cutting trees.

The 55-year-old suspect was detained at the Bedfordview Police Station on a charge of possession of dagga and was expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
