Vosloorus residents stage protest against RDP houses

A protest by angry residents from Vosloorus took place today (April 10) on the N3 highway.

It is alleged that the residents were protesting about plans to build RDP houses next to their bond houses. The residents fear that this will cause their properties to be devalued.

EMPD media liaison officer Kobeli Mokhoseng confirmed that there was a protest taking place and that people from Extension 28 in Vosloorus were involved.

“They barricaded the roads leading to the N3 highway, including Barry Marais, Sam Sekwati, Bierman, Brickfield and Moagi, with burning tyres and stones since around 4am this morning. The MMC for Human Settlements was there to calm the situation. He addressed the protesting crowd and assured them that building RDP houses in Vosloorus will not cause any devaluation. They are separate issues. We are busy cleaning out the area,” said Mokhoseng.

He confirmed that no one was injured during the protest.
