‘Abusive’ boyfriend stabbed to death

A 38-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 46-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Loqo, to death in Zola Section, Phola Park on March 2.

It is alleged that the deceased threatened his girlfriend with a firearm at around 11.30pm.

Thokoza SAPS communications officer Buyisile Mvelase said the man threatened his girlfriend after an argument broke out between the two of them. “The man took out a firearm and pointed it at his girlfriend,” said Mvelase. “He assaulted her and the woman managed to grab a knife and stabbed him in the thigh and stomach and then ran out of the house.”

Mvelase explained that police patrolling the area in a van noticed the woman running away. “They stopped her and she told them that she was fighting with her boyfriend and that he threatened her with a firearm. They went back to the house with the woman and indeed found a man lying on the floor with stab wounds, and a 9mm pistol and magazine with eight rounds.”

She said another 25 rounds of ammunition were found behind the door. “The man was taken to the nearby clinic and was certified dead on arrival.”

Mvelase said the woman told the police that the man had been physically abusing her for some time. “And even threatened to kill her. Yesterday the man came home late and started a fight with the woman,” said Mvelase.

The suspect was arrested on a charge of murder, and appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 5.
