KAC will host its Comrades Marathon training run

Katlehong Athletics Club (KAC) will host its own Comrades Marathon training run on April 27.

This 60km training run to Heidelberg will start at Chris Hani Mall at 5am and will be going along Old Heidelberg Road, which offers a similar run to the Comrades’ down run. Runners will finish at the Chris Hani Mall as well.

Hloni Motloung, the chairman of KAC, said, “Runners in and around Kathorus who will be participating in the Comrades Marathon on June 10 are welcome to join the training assimilation run at the cost of R80 per joining fee per person.

“The fee charged will take care of the runner’s needs like transportation and refreshments along the route during the training,” said Motloung.

He said the KAC will dedicate this long training run to Isaac Mabula who will be participating in his 29th Comrades Marathon this year.
“The theme will be ‘The Honour of Isaac Mabula’.
“Since 1982, Mabula has completed 28 Comrades Marathons in KAC colours and operated two buses where he successfully guided a group of runners from start to finish,” Motloung said.

Motloung added that during this year’s Comrades Marathon Mabula is expected to add to his tally of medals, which is four silver medals, two Bill Rowen medals, two Victor Clubman Medals and 20 bronze medals.

“He has also guided over 150 novice runners in completing their Comrades Marathon,” said Motloung.
In addition, Motloung said KAC also hosts its time trials every Tuesdays and Thursday at 6pm at Huntersfield Stadium.
“Club runs are every weekend from Motsiri Corner in Ramokonopi Section.”
