A student of life

A poem by Abednigo Pitso

Can I introduce myself

The name is PITSO

And I’m a student of life

All my peers have settled

Down…a few kids

Try to say maybe 7…

Anti-influenced.

I’m seeing a big picture

You might say I’m bored…

Or somewhat of a preacher

A child never deserves

To feel struggles of parents

Like “WHAT’S FOR DINNER”

Then there’s

Moment of silence…

Did you catch the name?

I said I was PITSO

A student of life…

Only a few know my stage…

Name…it’s something

Like Citizen five…

Pardon me…you’ll never

Find me in gold chains…

That runs through my veins…

In my back pocket

You’ll find a varsity

Student card…

But this doesn’t mean that

I’ve been working hard…

A wise man once told me

You don’t know anything

Unless you’re street smart

And this is the reason

You’ll find graduates

Asking job in the streets…

In school, they will never…

Teach you how life us…

I’m from a place where,

A degree is regarded

As a big achievement

I agree…but it’s only,

For the moment

“INVEST IN YOURSELF,”

These words are deeper

Than you think…

I never knew this,

Until God send me a link

You’ll find me reading

A Book…my peers,

Think its nerdy.

I’m running at my own pace

You should see them,

Breathing heavy…

Working a day job they

Always complain about but

As soon as the money

Comes in…they are happy

I won’t take a bribe

To forget my dreams

That’s how I’m feeling lately.
