Lucky Birds FC awards excellent players

A football club called Lucky Birds FC based in Vosloorus held an awards ceremony to award players in the u-13 and u-15 teams who performed at their best during the 2016 – 2017 season.

The ceremony took place at the Lethulwazi Comprehensive School hall on December 2.

Players of the team were dressed up in fashionable clothes at this event that ran from 2pm to 6pm.

Club chairman Muzi Mbuyisa, who took away the chairman’s award, said this was the second annual award ceremony. He said the purpose of the ceremony was to motivate players.

“Our players are doing well so we have to do something. They need to be awarded for a job well done,” said Mbuyisa.

He said the team that made them especially proud is the u-13 team that won four trophies.

“They won the Easter Tournament, the Mandela Tournament here in Vosloorus and then went to represent Vosloorus in the same tournament (Mandela Cup) at regional level at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), where they won another cup. On top of that they won the Vosloorus Local Football Association league (VLFA),” said Mbuyisa.

He said the u-15 team achieved position two in the Easter Tournament and position four in VLFL.

He added that the money used to buy trophies was raised by players’ parents but they used some of the team’s money.

The u-15 players’ awards were as follow:

*Neelang Tau and Thand Madiya both got the Leading Goal Scorer awards.

*Lungile Situ went away with the Best Defender award.

*Ontshiameng Sekete took home the Best Midfielder award.

*Minenhle Mthethwa went home with the Player of the Season award.

The u-13 players’ awards were as follow:

*Siphesihle Buthelezi, Tidimalo Pheelwane and Bukgantsho Ntsane all went away with the Most Improved Player awards.

* Itumeleng Mofokeng went home with the Best Midfielder award.

* Alwande Nkosi and Sakhile SIbumbe both went away with the Best Defender award.

* Team goal keeper Kwena Molapo went away with Save of the Season award.

*Luthando Zondi took most of the awards as he went away with five awards on the day. He took home awards for Player of the Season, Players’ Player, Goal of the Season, Team’s leading Goal Scorer (28 goals) and Overall Performer as he was playing for the u-15 team as well.

Mandela Cup awards went to the following players:

*Oteng Moketsane went away with the Goal of the Tournament award.

*Zwakele Nxumalo went home with the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

*Sihle Kelene and Akani Hlembela both took away Best Defender of the Tournament awards.

* Luthando Zondi took home the Leading Goal scorer of the Tournament award.

The team also announced two special awards – Best Defender Ever and the Chairman Award.

The Best Defender award went to the late Thando Mhlonthlo (u-13) who passed away before the team won the Mandela Cup at UJ and the Chairman award was given to Muzi Mbuyisa who is also a team coach.

The Best Defender Ever award was received by Thando’s mother (Busisiwe Mhlonhlo).

Trophies were awarded to the all best performers while medals and certificates went to all the players who participated in the team for the whole season.
