School proud of multi-talented youngster

Melusi Xulu a teacher at Tshabalala Primary School in Katlehong said he is proud of one of the pupils, namely Thapelo Molefe (11) who excelled during the Cross Country Athletics in Alberton on August 25.

Molefe from Tshabalala Primary School represented schools from Katlehong One in the u-11 marathon. He ran 3kms.

After winning the 3km race, Molefe was chosen to represent Ekurhuleni South at provincial level at Prestige College in Tshwane on September 3.

Xulu says Molefe is a multi-talented pupil.

“He can balance school work with sport very well. Besides being a runner, Molefe is also a good soccer player – a good goal keeper for the school,” Xulu said.

Xulu said Molefe never caused trouble for the teachers.

“He is smart. When he performs at a provincial level, I hope talent scouts see how talented he is and recruit him,” added Xulu.

Molefe said he made it against all odds.

“Other athletes did not make it easy for us as they did not play by the rules. Others pushed us but because of our teachers’ support and good training methods, I was able to win despite these setbacks,” Molefe said.

He thanked his family for their support.

“They know that if I take part in sport, I don’t forget my school work. That is why I have their support,” Molefe said.

As a young goalkeeper and a runner, Molefe is a big fan of both Brilliant Khuzwayo – a Kaizer Chief goalkeeper – and Olympic 800m gold medalist, Caster Simenya.
