Two men arrested for assaulting old man

Two suspects were arrested for robbery and assault with the intent to cause bodily harm on Wednesday, May 3.

The communications official at Katlehong Police Station, Capt Mega Ndobe, said the arrest was made at the suspects’ residence in Katlehong.

“It is alleged that at about 11am on Sunday, April 30, a 69-year-old man was driving down the street at Kwanele Section in Katlehong when two men walking on the road refused to give way to the vehicle,” said Ndobe.

He said the old man hooted several times for the suspects to move off the road.

“It is alleged that instead of the suspects moving away, they walked straight towards him. They broke the vehicle window and assaulted the old man.

“According to medical reports the victim was seriously injured. It was also reported that during the assault the victim’s wallet containing cash was taken from his pocket. The police followed the lead, and on Wednesday, May 3, the suspects were arrested at about 6.55am,” said Ndobe.

He said the suspects were charged with malicious damage to property, assault with intent to cause bodily harm and robbery.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

Investigations continue.
