Suspect gets suspended sentence for attempted murder

Mzukisi Nelson Mbuyisa of Vosloorus received a suspended sentence for the attempted murder of Anton Sons.

VOSLOORUS – In 2010, Mbuyisa intentionally and wrongfully attempted to kill Sons by driving over him with a car.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge on April 18, 2012, but the court found him guilty as charged.

He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on July 30. His sentence was suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit murder or attempted murder.

He has no previous convictions.

Magistrate Colbert Ramofhufhi presided and prosecutor Jabu Motha represented the state.

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrate Court:

  • Bongani Piet Dlamini (37) of Katlehong pleaded guilty to theft on June 18.

The court also found him guilty as charged on the same day.

The accused unlawfully and intentionally stole three packets of sliced cheese from Pick n’ Pay in May.

He had seven previous convictions and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Magistarte Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

  • Majola Thato (29) of Vosloorus was convicted of theft on July 30.

Majola pleaded guilty to unlawfully and intentionally stealing two tins of Kiwi polish from Boxer Supermarket.

The state also found him guilty on July 30 and sentenced him to three years in jail.

He has a previous conviction of theft committed in 2007.

Magistarte Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

  • Melody Mayo (20) from Johannesburg was handed a suspended sentence for stealing clothes worth R2098 80 from Edgars, East Rand Mall.

The accused pleaded guilty and the court also found her guilty and sentenced her to R6000 fine or 12 months in prison.

The sentence was suspended for five years on condition that the accused does not commit theft or attempted theft.

The accused has no previous convictions.

Magistarte Molefe Ratlou presided and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.

  • Msiza Nkomo (29), a Zimbabwean citizen living in Johannesburg, was convicted of rape and housebreaking with the intent to steal and robbery.

On August 2013, the accused unlawfully and intentionally broke into and entered a woman’s house and took her two Nokia cellphones and R500 cash.

On the same day, at knife-point, the accused sexually penetrated the woman by inserting his fingers in her vagina.

He pleaded not guilty to the two charges but the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 15 years for rape and 10 years on the second charge, on July 29.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Magistarte Colbert Ramofhufi presided and prosecutor Nkosazana Tyeku represented the state.

  • Mzamani Ndima (27) pleaded not guilty to assaulting Johanna Mnisi and stabbing to death Jeremia Phaphama in July 2013.

The accused kicked Mnisi and also hit her with a bottle before stabbing Phaphama with a knife.

The court found him guilty of murder and discharged him on the second charge.

He was sentenced on July 30, to 15 years in prison.

Magistrate Abel Shilubana presided and prosecutor Nkosazana Tyeku represented the state.
