A frantic Katlehong family is desperately appealing to anyone who may have seen their elderly mother, 66-year-old Sibonisile Mgube-Ngcobo, who disappeared from the family’s rented back-room in Radebe Section on the morning of December 2.

According to the missing elderly woman’s distraught daughter,Winnie Ngcobo, her mother disappeared after she was last seen seated in the shade in the yard.

Winnie, told Kathorus MAIL that despite several searches at hospitals, police stations and the government mortuary in Germiston, the family has had no luck in locating the whereabouts of their missing mother.

She described her mother as “unwell” and “suffering from loss of memory”.

“We had recently brought her up from ZKN so she could receive medical treatment from doctors and medical facilities in Gauteng,” explained the daughter who added that her missing mother was not familiar with the Katlehong area and that because of her mental state, she may have wandered out of the yard and got lost finding her way back.

“We have searched everywhere for her with no success,” said Winnie, who now believes her mother may have been picked up by a stranger.

“But because she did not know where she was, and perhaps all she could say to the stranger was that she was from Newcastle, and the person may then have given her a lift and dropped her off back in Newcastle,” explained Winnie, trying to paint a picture of what could have happened to her missing mother.

“We may be focusing our attention on local surroundings and yet my mother could be sitting or even locked up in some institution or mental facility in KZN,” said the desperate young Katlehong mother.

Winnie said her mother is popularly known as “Ma-Mgube” and she may have introduced herself or even given this “clan” name to people who may have tried to assist her while she was wandering around trying to find her way back to Winnie’s house in Katlehong.

“But since no one in the area knew who she was, nor even seen her before, even local people could not help her, since they had also never heard of the name she may have given because she was from KZN,” explained Winnie emotionally.

According to Winnie Ngcobo, the family has also lodged a case for a “missing person” with both the Vosloorus as well as the Katlehong SAPS.

“And I appeal to anyone who may have come across her or knows where she is to please contact me urgently on 071 123 4619, or my brothers Melusi; 076 402 4785 and Isaac; on 079 260 9164. or the SAPS at Katlehong or in Vosloorus.
