Vosloorus based Erasmus Monareng Comprehensive School celebrated Heritage Day in style on Friday, September 23.

Learners and teachers of the school were dressed in different attires according to their cultures and performed various items of music and dance.

According to the school principal Saron Maboa, the purpose of the gathering was to expose children to different cultures and to teach them to respect one another and stop looking down upon each other.

“It is at functions like these where you find learners embracing diversity, tolerating and respecting different cultures.

“Learners use such platforms to show off their talents,” said Maboa.

The speaker of the day Clement Maosa told the learners to learn more about their cultures because it helps them to know where they come from.

“The reason why we are called ‘the lost generation’ is because we have abandoned our own culture and adopted other peoples’ cultures,” said Maosa.

Maosa concluded by saying if people know where they come from, it will be easy to know where they are going.
