JUST IN: Vosloorus cop shot dead by robbers

A 34-year-old Vosloorus SAPS constable was shot dead by a gang of robbers at the Vosloorus Crossing Shopping Complex just before 8am this morning (July 29).

VOSLOORUS – According to Capt Piet Rossouw, the spokesperson for the Vosloorus SAPS, the policeman was in a patrol vehicle when a gang of about 10 to 15 men sprung out of two vehicles and began shooting with AK 47 and R5 rifles.

The two police officers jumped out of their vehicle and fired back at the attackers, who immediately fled the scene.

One of the policemen died in the shoot-out and Rossouw said one of the attackers was also shot but the gang managed escape.

“We believe they were on their way to commit a robbery in the vicinity when they saw the police van and panicked,” Rossouw told the Kathorus MAIL.

Rossouw said the name of the dead policeman could not be revealed as his next of kin had not been informed of the incident.
