Let’s stop the spread of the coronavirus

Daphne Nhlabathi from Mailula Park writes,

It is scary to see people ignoring the warnings by the Department of Health of the dangers of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. It is worrying to see both children and adults in some areas walking about without wearing masks and observing social distancing protocols. In some places, it is not uncommon to see long queues of people outside government buildings and shops without the necessary protective clothing.

This poses a serious health danger to many other people who are trying to observe these safety protocols to avoid spreading the virus to others. I wish to see the government dispatch more police on our streets to enforce the safety protocols issued by the health authorities.

Many families have already lost loved ones to this pandemic and it is up to each one of us to place our own safety against this pandemic in our own hands. Parents also must ensure that their children understand the dangers posed by this pandemic and show them how to protect themselves from it, by adhering to the safety protocols issued by the government.

It is up to all of us as communities to prevent the spread of the pandemic, first in our own families and to our neighbours and extended families.
