Ekurhuleni North records most Covid-19 cases in the metro

In Gauteng, there were seven deaths while 826 people recovered

On April 22, 265 cases of Covid-19 had been reported in Ekurhuleni.

Ekurhuleni North, which includes Kempton Park, Edenvale, Thembisa and Bapsfontein, had the highest number of cases in the metro at 111.

Ekurhuleni South (Alberton, Boksburg, Germiston, Bedfordview, Katlehong, Vosloorus, Thokoza and Duduza) recorded 74 cases, while Ekurhuleni East (Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, Kwa-Thema, Tsakani, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Wattville, Nigel and Alra Park) had 55 cases.

There were 25 unallocated cases.

In Gauteng, Johannesburg still has the most cases (726), followed by Ekurhuleni (265), Tshwane (127), Sedibeng (11), West Rand (41) and unallocated (54).

There were seven deaths while 826 people recovered.

The total number of cases in Gauteng were at 1 224 on April 22. Out of the 7 479 contacts traced, 2 975 people have completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported.

There are currently 46 people in hospital.

Health workers
By April 22, 28 Gauteng health employees have tested positive. All cases are mild and did not require hospitalisation, except for one. This person was discharged on April 17.

The first cohort of workers who tested positive contracted the virus through social circles and not in the workplace, said Gauteng Department of Health.

There has been a number of recoveries so far. Eleven people have recovered and most are back at work. The rest are being monitored.

The department has sufficient PPE and are continiously replenishing stocks.
