Katlehong men arrested for murder in Mpumalanga

Katlehong police told Kathorus MAIL a farmer found his body buried on his farm and reported the matter to the local police.

Three men from Katlehong South recently appeared in court in Amersfoort, Mpumalanga, following the murder of a 25-year-old Kathorus taxi owner whose body was found buried in a shallow grave by a farmer.

The trio was arrested on April 5 in Katlehong following an investigation into the disappearance of Xolani Perfect Zulu. According to the Katlehong SAPS, Zulu was last seen by his 22-year-old fiancée on March 18. She told police she saw him when he arrived home from work just after 8pm that evening.

His nephew, 25-year-old Siyabonga Zulu, reported him as missing to the police.

“My uncle hardly had enough time to change out of his work clothes, wash and have supper with his family before a man arrived soon after he came home.

“They went into the house, came out again and walked towards the man’s vehicle where they chatted for a few minutes before the visitor drove away. My uncle got in his Kombi and followed him,” said the nephew.

Zulu never returned home and his taxi was never seen again.

On March 24, the Katlehong SAPS received a complaint about a missing person. After gathering information from the man’s family, the investigator was able to track the missing man’s cellphone, which was in possession of one of the three suspects. He was arrested and later led cops to two of his accomplices.

The suspects confessed how they abducted Zulu and took him to Amersfoort. They described how he was murdered and his body buried.

During the interrogation, the suspects also revealed the identity of a man who they claimed was the brain behind Zulu’s abduction and murder.

Zulu’s nephew confirmed on March 8 that this man had been arrested by the police in Katlehong South.

The police, however, could not confirm the arrest of the fourth man at the time of going to press.
