Local school awards their outstanding performers

High-performing learners from Tshabalala Primary School were recently awarded by the school during a ceremony that took place at the school.

Bertha Mahlatji, one of the teachers who organised the event, said the reason the school organised this ceremony was to celebrate the achievement of learners during the 2019 academic year and to also encourage them to work hard.

“Learners need to be acknowledged for their good deeds so that they will keep up their good performances. At the same time, those who did not do well have to pull up their socks and improve their pass marks,” Mahlatji said.

She said the most significant part of the ceremony was to encourage healthy competition among the learners.

Mahlatji added that the award ceremony is very important to the school because the school principal, together with the staff, use the ceremony to make their school visible to the outside world.

“We want to attract more learners to our school and young teachers who have just completed their teaching qualifications to come and add value to the school,” explained Mahlatji.

School principal Sifiso Ngobese added that the awards help to promote positive and appropriate behaviour among learners in their respective classrooms.

“Learners become successful at school if they are happy. Such awards encourage learners to be productive at school and become responsible at home. They make learners proud, thus making them more productive,” said Ngobese.

There were a lot of activities during the ceremony, such as dance, poetry, and drama performed by the school learners.

There were also motivational speeches by one of the guests.

Parents, teachers from different schools as well as guests from the Department of Education graced the school with their presence.

Top three learners were awarded in each learning area from Grade One to Grade Seven.
