Empress SA finalist from Vosloorus needs your vote

Dineo Shange (20), from Extension 25 in Vosloorus, is an A+ computer and IT application software student at the Institute of Risk Management South Africa.

She is also a Google Africa certification scholarship holder (in partnership with Andela Learning Community) and an Empress South Africa finalist.

“I was scrolling through my Facebook timeline when my eye caught a post about Empress South Africa. I was curious about it because a lot of women wanted to be part of it. I searched about it and saw that it was a contest about empowering women and I immediately wanted to be part of it,” Shange said.

Shange said Empress South Africa is a symbol of great leadership and empowerment. It is the first-ever online beauty pageant in the world, with more than 45 000 applicants across the country.

Only 500 contestants will be accepted.

“The number of contestants is listed according to the levels we are moved to, so if you are dedicated, show consistency and have high points to move to another level, you can win in your province,” said Shange.

The Empress South Africa pageant doesn’t focus on body type and does not discriminate in terms of height, weight, colour, tattoos, voice or accent.

Shange said, “We are given challenges that are designed to empower us. At the semi-finalist level, we build our brand in our communities. We also gear up for business aspects and entrepreneurship.

“There’s a brochure similar to a magazine catalogue at the end of the crowning, where our businesses are advertised and get media exposure.

“Empress South Africa has given me so much confidence in myself and I’m so proud to be part of it.”

The pageant will take place at Suncoast Casino Barnyard Theatre, Durban, on December 16.
