Beware of money-dropping scams

Communications officer at Vosloorus SAPS Capt Piet Rossouw said they have previously experienced cases of money dropping being reported at the station.

Rossouw said, together with Vosloorus CPF, South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) and different media houses, they have hosted numerous projects to inform and educate the community about the problems and money scams.]

“By the looks of things, it looks like the scam is back again in Vosloorus. We are discouraging people from withdrawing large sums of money and rather make use of electronic transfer, and to request their employees to open bank accounts,” said Rossouw.

He also advised people who are going to withdraw large sums of money to avoid being caught in money-dropping scams.

“Instead, before withdrawing cash, people must ask for help from the police station to have them safely escorted to their homes immediately after withdrawing money.”
