Schoolchildren look sharp in donated uniforms

VBDTA grievance officer Simon Matsena said they wanted to something good for the destitute children of the school.

Vosloorus Boksburg Dunswart Taxi Association (VBDTA) donated school jerseys, sanitary towels and toiletries to the value of R21 000 to Thabang Primary School in Vosloorus on Mandela Day, July 18.

“It is our way of giving back to the community since we are in the transport industry. We had to something for this community since the parents of these young people are the ones who support our businesses,” said Matsena.

School principal Gadniel Jele said he was very excited on behalf of the school.

“We are happy with this initiative, especially because it is not the first time they are doing something so good for us,” said Jele.

He said most of the children from the school come from disadvantaged communities such as Extension 28, Extension Nine and the surrounding informal settlements.

“This initiative will assist the children a lot by boosting their self-esteem and their morale. I am sure that now that they can dress the same as the other children, they will perform better in class,” said Jele.

The uniforms will also make it easy to identify which school the children attend.

“Since these children come from destitute backgrounds, they do not have money to buy school jerseys. As a result they came to school wearing different colours, which made it difficult to identify which school they come from,” said Jele.
