Public protests to be dealt with using Nyalas

Vehicles set to help EMPD with crowd control.

The EMPD in its quest to deal with violent public protests in a manner in line with the constitution of the Republic, namely in a non-lethal fashion, ordered seven Nyalas through The Future of Motion (TFM) Company recently.

The Nyala is an agile and highly protected armoured personnel carrier to ensure effective policing for crowd management while ensuring safety of police members in riot situations.

Thus far, the EMPD has taken delivery of five Nyalas with the two last ones being delivered soon.

The EMPD has ordered seven Nyalas which will be used by the EMPD’s Public Order Policing Unit.

The Nyalas are security vehicles designed for patrol and crowd control management.

The vehicles have ballistic armour, as well as ballistic glass for the protection of occupants.

Members of the metro’s community safety oversight committee had the opportunity of seeing the Nyala in the process of being built.

They are also fitted with a hydraulically operated front dozer blades capable of removing objects blockading roads and have roof-mounted cable cutters.

Some of the metro’s community safety oversight committee members also had the opportunity of visiting the factory and seeing the Nyalas in production.
