Real Katlehong City legend dies

Former Real Katlehong City FC star Patrick 'Mastermind' Ngwenya (70) has died.

Ngwenya died on May 17 after a short illness while at home in Ngema Section, Katlehong.

He was buried on May 26 during a funeral started at DH Williams Hall, Katlehong. He was laid to rest at South Park Cemetery in Elspark, Germiston.

He started his amateur football career at Katlehong Happy Stars and joined the professional side Real Katlehong City FC in the early ’70s. Real Katlehong City played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), now known as PSL.

Josiah Cindi, treasurer of Katlehong Local Football Association (KALFA), said while playing for Real Katlehong City, Ngwenya scored a famous hat-trick with his head, a record still unbroken.

“His involvement in grooming young talent and in the local football association was remarkable,” said Cindi.
