Eight motorists arrested for excessive speeding in Germiston and Boksburg

Speedsters on the N3 and R21 highways were arrested by EMPD officers last weekend.

Members of the EMPD High-Speed Unit were out once again tackling the issue of excessive speeding on Ekurhuleni’s highways, last weekend.

On the N3 highway south near the Rand Airport Road off-ramp, last Saturday, members conducted a speed reinforcement operation between 6am and 11am.

They netted three alleged speedsters.

The following day, five alleged speedsters were nabbed between 6 am and 11 am on the R21 south near the N12 highway bridge.

On the N3, the three motorists caught were doing speeds of between 144 and 169km/h.

They were all men aged between 23 and 36. One was riding a motorcycle, one was driving a minibus taxi and the third was driving a sedan.

“They cited the usual reasons of being late for work or visiting a friend for their excessive speed,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, media liaison officer for the EMPD.

“The three arrestees were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Germiston Police Station, but later released after posting bail of R1 000 each.
