Participation was free, but each driver had to bring a pack of sanitary products.

An initiative to raise funds to buy sanitary products for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) of Isipho Sethu Special School was held at the school in Vosloorus on March 30.

The event that was hosted by the two Kathorus Crew teams, The Boys and Stance Abiding Citizens. It was mainly based on the beauty of the cars, the sound the car makes, the lowness of the car and the cleanliness of the car.

Dodo Makhada, one of the founders of the initiative, said the reason behind hosting this event is to start raising awareness for the car culture and it started with a movement around the township.

“This initiative will, in the long run, help us generate funds for OVC schools that are in need of financial support around Vosloorus,” said Makhada.

He said they saw the culture growing in Soweto and Florida and decided to adopt it.

“The culture has caught our attention as we have seen how people’s love for cars can help the same community grow bigger and better. As the youth of Vosloorus, we take it upon ourselves to bring positive change to our community through this initiative that is clearly working for others. The sole purpose of this event is to bring the community together through the love for cars and the culture that surrounds it, yield a positive outcome by doing so and also ultimately help the less fortunate,” said Makhada.
