Afcko dream team selected

More than 90 full contact karate students came for African Full Contact Karate Organisation (Afcko) night training at Mpotsheng Secondary School in Katlehong on February 16.

The dojos who took part in the programme are Thokoza, Katlehong, Sebokeng, Zakhariya Park and Kagiso. From these, more than 35 karatekas were selected to form the Afcko dream team that will participate in tournaments in 2019.

The programme started at 8pm on the day and ran till 4am the following morning.

Afcko president Thulane Sibisi was pleased to see stakeholders, including instructors, students and parents, show their support to Afcko in Gauteng.

“You don’t always see people come together in their numbers to support such a good cause,” said Sibisi.

In addition to selecting the dream team there are social reasons for such events.

“Another purpose is to provide relevant skills to karate clubs, to raise funding for karate clubs, to promote a healthy lifestyle, promote family social values, encourage youth to be responsible, promote adequate psychological and physical development in youth, educate youth and encourage a drug free society as well as fight against woman and child abuse,” said Sibisi.

He said the team will bring about healthy competition among all full contact karate clubs. “The team will participate in all competitions including local, regional, provincial, national and international events in 2019. All categories will be represented,” said Sibisi.

The senior instructors who were responsible for choosing the team were sensei Muzi Zulu, sensei Bonolo Mokokota, sensei Mbali Msomi, sensei Mandla Ndlela, sensei Siya Mayisa, shodan Mpho Nobunga and shodan Micheck Ntuli.

Khensane Baloyi, Thandiwe Mokono, Thokozane Sibeko, Ntokozo Mazibuko, Alwande Madela, Khusonga Mthanyelwa, Avethandwa Makukule, Reata Makukule, Ndumiso Kubeka, Tskane Makukule and Mbali Msomi, all from the Thokoza Dojo, made the dream team.

From Katlehong Dojo were Pontso Nkopane, Siyabonga Pitso, Qondile Jona, Boy Maluka, Bandile Maluka, Venolly Baloyi, Siyabonga Zulu, Fikile Ntuli, Khwezi Makukule, Maqawe Tshilibe, Tshiamo Maphuphe ,Qiniso Msomi, Syanda Mayaya,Thando Masha, Veli Mothiba and Mandla Ndlela.

Sebokeng, Zakhariya Park and Kagiso were also chosen for the dream team.
