Pool competition for Kathorus residents

Pool players from Kathorus took part in a pool competition at Matlala’s Tavern in Mailula, Vosloorus, on January 25.

Sixteen players from Vosloorus, Thokoza and Katlehong participated in this prestigious event.

Each player paid a R30 joining fee and the winner took all the money, a total of R480.

Andile Sibeko, one of the organisers and pool player, said the purpose of the weekly competition is to bring together the best pool players in Kathorus.

“We want to entertain pool lovers who come every week to watch us play their favourite sport,” said Sibeko. “Anyone passionate about the sport can take part in the competition. There is no age limit but young players must be the right age to enter a tavern.”

Sibeko also said he is happy to see the competition is gaining popularity and the number of players is increasing.

“When we started this competition, very few players took part and the number of spectators was very low,” explained Sibeko.

He explained why they chose Matlala’s Tavern as the venue.

“This venue can accommodate 32 players and our fans. It has two tables, which is a bonus for us because two games can be played simultaneously,” said Sibeko.

Quarter-final results are:

Andile Sibeko lost 2-1 to Edgar Raphahlelo

Thami Magagula lost 2-0 to Nkululeko Masindi
