AFCKO karate awards

The sixth instalment of the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) annual karate awards was hosted by the organisation at Germiston Swimming Pool on December 14.

AFCKO awards were established by shihan Thulane Sibisi (AFCKO founder) after noticing the commitment and dedication of full contact karate students nationally.

This is a platform where Afcko recognises individuals who perform well during the year.

Every year in December Afcko organises the event to encourage athletes to work hard in different categories of the sport.

More than 105 students gathered to congratulate the winners. They came from different provinces including Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and the Free State.

“I am happy to see full contact karate as a sport taking the initiative to bring awareness about issues that affect our communities. These issues include the dangers of drug abuse; the question of woman and children abuse; and the creation of awareness about cancer. With the school re-opening for 2019, I would like to see karate students taking a leading role to help to minimise bullying,” said Sibisi, encouraging learners and victims not to remain silent when bullying happens, but to take an active stand to but talk about it as inconsistent with the country’s Constitution.
