Four suspects arrested for alleged murder

Zonkizizwe police held weekend operations which resulted in the arrest of four suspects for various crimes such as murder, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, drunk in public and possession of drugs.

Zonkizizwe SAPS communications official Sgt Rufus Tema said: “In the murder case, it is alleged that on November 25 the 24-year-old suspect had an argument with the deceased in a tavern in Zonkizizwe Extension Three. During the argument, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body. The victim was rushed to hospital where he later died. The suspect was later arrested subsequent to the registration of the case.”

Tema said the suspect who was found in possession of drugs (nyaope) was arrested in Zone Three, Zonkizizwe.

“This came after a tip-off from an anonymous source who has been observing the movement of the suspect in the past few days. The concerned community member reported to police that the suspect is selling nyaope and is not known in their street. After being given the address and the description of the suspect, the police went to investigate the suspect,” said Tema.

She added on police’s arrival, they searched the man who matched the description given.

“The police found a plastic bag in which a number of small wrapped parcels of nyaope were found. He was immediately arrested for being in possession of drugs,” said Tema.

The other two suspects, aged 32 and 31, were arrested for being drunk in public and intention to cause grievous body harm.

All suspects are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
