Gate stolen, found in kitchen being cut into pieces

Resident blames the thievery on the Nyaope boys in her area who are breaking into houses and stealing anything they see of value on one’s property.

EDEN PARK – An Eden Park resident was furious when she realised that the gate leading onto her property had been stolen.

Amelia Peterson (64) said they locked the gate on September 3 before going to bed that night.

“When we woke up the next day my gate was gone! I was shocked and angry. I blamed the Nyaope boys in my area who are breaking into houses and stealing anything they see of value on one’s property.”

Peterson further alleged that a young man, that is known to her, informed her that he had seen her gate at a house in a nearby street.

“When my son and I arrived at the particular house, we found that they were busy cutting my gate with a grinding machine in their kitchen. It was by then already cut into three pieces.”

Peterson was told that they had bought the gate for R250 from somebody else.

“We took the gate back home and my son begged me not to open a case of theft against the family because he felt so much pity for them.” The family’s son also later apologised to Peterson.
