Lucky Birds lose within last two minutes of game

Lucky Birds FC’s u-15 team from Vosloorus lost crucial points when they lost 4-2 to Auto Ayoba Academy during the Regional League game in KwaThema on May 6.

Muzi Mbuyisa, the chairperson and coach of Lucky Birds FC, said the reason they lost was that they fielded a lot of underaged players.

“Most of our players were around age 11 and 12. The players from the other team were almost 15 years old. You could see by their physical appearances,” said Mbuyisa.

Mbuyisa added because of the age gap the players lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game.

“We were leading 2-1 for most of the first half. Then they equalised a few minutes after the start of the second half. We then lost concentration two minutes before the end of the game and they scored two quick goals in that period of time,” said Mbuyisa.

He thanked the young players from his team for showing a die-hard fighting spirit.

Lucky Birds remain in position 10 on the log standings.

Mbuyisa said they did not have any game plan going into this game as they did not know their opponents well.

“We only planned after we knew their weaknesses,” concluded Mbuyisa.
