Taxi driver shot in Vosloorus

One driver was killed when two taxis and a VW Jetta collided on the corner of Briekfield and Mohoodisa roads in Vosloorus on May 16.

The communications officer at the Vosloorus SAPS, Capt Piet Rossouw, said: “One taxi driver, who was alone, did not sustain any injury and his vehicle was slightly damaged, while the other taxi driver and five occupants of the VW Jetta sustained minor injuries,” said Rossouw.

Medical emergency services tended to the injured people at the scene and discovered that the driver of the VW Jetta had been fatally shot in the chest. He was declared dead at the scene.

The Vosloorus SAPS was summoned to the scene to investigate.

On arrival, the police started with their investigation.

One of the VW Jetta occupants who did not want to be named, said: “One of the taxis skipped the stop street and collided with the Jetta and then collided with another oncoming taxi, which was slightly damaged. An argument started between the taxi driver who caused an accident and the Jetta driver. As a result of the argument, the 25-year-old Jetta driver was fatally shot in the chest,” said the occupant.

Rossouw said the suspect (30) was arrested after medical treatment and has been detained.

“One licensed firearm, a Norinco 9mm pistol and eight rounds, was seized,” said Rossouw.

The suspect appeared in the Vosloorus Court on May 17 where he was charged with murder as well as negligent and reckless driving.

All other injured were discharged from the hospital on the same day the accident occurred.
