Thokoza SAPS warns the community against rape

Thokoza Police Station communications officer Capt Buyisile Mvelase, in partnership with the Social Crime Prevention Unit, CPF and Youth Desk has issued warnings against rape to the community of Kathorus.

The station has made community safety their number one priority.

To keep the community safe and to avoid being raped the following tips were highlighted:

• Never accept gifts from strangers.

• Never talk to adults you do not know.

• Never accept sweets, money or ice cream from strangers.

• Walk to and from schools in groups.

• Keep doors and windows locked at all times.

• Know your home and street address.

• Walk in a well-lit street in groups at night.

• Yell and shout if you suspect that a stranger is following you. Turn around and walk in the opposite direction.

• Do not walk around talking on your cellphone as it will distract you from what is happening around you.

• Avoid going around or loitering around unnecessarily after hours.

• Avoid taking shortcuts through deserted areas such as parks, passages and open spaces at night.
