Community urged to support Men of the Year finalists

Nominees from the Kathorus area who have won through to the final stages of the South African Men of the Year Awards have appealed to the community to support them.

The winners in different categories will be crowned during a ceremony taking place at Carnival City from 6pm on November 29.

The six nominees from the Kathorus area who will be waiting to hear who will take home the coveted awards are:

*Sunnyboy Nxumalo (community developer);

*Mandla Ngwenya (youth developer);

*Pastor Nhlapo (leadership);

*Doctor Gumbi (leadership and entrepreneuship);

*Emmanuel Maema; and

*Isaac Mavuso (entrepreneur developer).

Nxumalo said he is happy to have reached this level.

“I would like to thank the community for voting for me until at this level. I highly appreciate what they did,” Nxumalo said.

“The last thing I would like to plead them to do is to buy tickets and come in their numbers and give us support at Carnival City on November 29. Most of the nominees will be coming with people to support them. I plead you to do the same.”

Nxumalo has been nominated for working closely with elders in the township.

“I went door-to-door in their houses, finding the issues that affect them and referring them to institutions that could offer them help according to the needs.”

Nxumalo said he also worked with disabled people, drug addicts as well as unemployed youth.

He said people tend to spend their money on things that are not important.

“This is one of the things that people should spend most of their time supporting, instead of spending more money on alcohol and on attending unimportant music concerts.”

Tickets for the awards ceremony are available through Computicket at R100 general, R250 standard and R500 VIP. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased online at www.samenawards.co.za
