Zuma Warns Mboro

President Jacob Zuma, has entered the on-going fray between the chairperson of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva and the controversial Katlehong church-leader Paseka Motsoeneng who is also known as “Prophet Mboro”.

According to an online daily tabloid report, the President has issued a veiled warning in which he assured officials of the CRL probing the commercialisation of religion in South Africa, that the authorities would evaluate their security following the complaints lodged by the CRL chairperson about threats of harassment, insults and intimidation allegedly issued against her by the controversial self-proclaimed “prophet”.

Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva is reported to have since increased security around her and her CRL team following the alleged threats allegedly made to her life by Motsoeneng. She is also believed to have laid a criminal charge of crimen-injuria, incitement and intimidation against the controversial self-anointed “prophet”.

Interviewed on Radio 702, Mboro was defiant and continued to claim that the CRL had tarnished his name and that she has refused to adhere to his demands that she apologise to him. He accused the CRL chairperson of failing to publicly honour his demands that she clean his church and his shoes.

President Zuma is also reported to have met with Mkhwanazi-Xaluva’s team a fortnight ago to receive their completed report titled: “The Report of the Hearing on the Commercialization of Religion and Abuse of People’s Belief Systems”.

Referring to the work of CRL, the President is quoted as saying; “Chapter 9 institutions are one of the cornerstones of our democracy. They have been established to strengthen the country’s constitutional democracy and must be respected.”

“The leaders of these institutions must be given the space to exercise their powers and perform their functions without fear‚” explained the President.

In a media statement from the office of the President, the CRL has been assured of government’s support and encouraged by President Zuma for its role in promoting diversity and social cohesion within the country.

Efforts by Kathorus MAIL to reach “Mboro” for a comment were unsuccessful as none of the numbers in possession of the newspaper seemed to be accessible.
