Primary school cross country athletics held

The Cross Country Athletics was held on August 15 at Tamaho sports ground in Katlehong.

Seven primary schools including Tshabalala, Tamaho, Khumalo, Reahile, Monde, Keketso and Maitjhibulo Primary School took part in the elimination stages of the competition.

Refilwe Tsaagane from Tshabalala Primary School said the selection process have four legs.

“The elimination process started with the first leg on August 2 whereby we had 25 athletes in different age-groups from u-9 till u-13. The second leg was on August 8 whereby we eliminated five athletes in each category. Today’s leg is the third one of the elimination stages and we will eliminate five learners as well. On August 22 we will have the forth and the final stages of the elimination process. Again five athletes will be eliminated. We want to have the total of 10 athletes per age-group to represent Katlehong One,” said Tsaagane.

She said all elimination games will take place at Tamaho sports ground.

“After the elimination games on August 22, we will take 10 athletes per age group to the district level and represent Katlehong One at Thabaa Trial sports ground in Alberton on August 25. Katlehong One will compete against Katlehong Two, Katlehong Three and Alberton,” she said.

She concluded by saying the winners will represent Ekurhuleni district at provincial level.

U-9 and u-10 boys and girls ran 2 km, u-11, u-12 and u-13 boys and girls ran 3km, while u-13 boys ran 4km. No girls took part in 4km race.
